Life Stumble

This is where I comment on those things that I stumble upon daily. Ponderings mainly. Take everything here with a grain of salt... or sugar if you should choose.

Who I am is complex, but here is the summary - someone interested in helping others find the truth about themselves, while searching for the truth within. That bit about being a professional triathlete is tongue in cheek. I am a guy who quit his job with the goal of making it to Kona with some focused training... it is as close to a professional athlete as I will ever come :)

This is really sad...

Final Days of Girl's Life Reveal Horrors

I literally stumbled across this yesterday, and thought "how sad" but it got me to thinking, which is invariably good :)

Obviously this is a travesty, and this sort of thing goes on daily around the world. There isn't always a news story, and it isn't always happening in the good old United States of America, but it goes on nevertheless.

This got me thinking about other things...

I was sitting up on the bike in the gym yesterday, doing a 1.5 hour workout, looking down into the pool - there is much to see at the local pool, let me tell you. Anyways, as I was looking down into the pool, I saw something interesting - a fat little girl wearing a shirt that read "100% Bitch". I am not good at the age guessing game, but I would peg this girl at around eight years old.

So - I am wondering to myself "who in their right mind would let their eight year old daughter wear a shirt like that" and then I realized, that is probably only the second of two crimes. The kid is obviously obese.

Now, those that know me will know that I don't like to "judge the book by the cover" but GENERALLY speaking, a fat kid equals a fat parent feeding the fat kid poorly.

This got me to thinking - where do we draw the line when we talk child abuse? I cannot help but think that feeding your kid KFC with a side of fries and gravey IS abuse, almost of the worst kind.

I know - I don't have children, and I should get off my high horse - who am I to be telling you how to parent your children, right?

I suppose, but I really don't know what's worse - killing your children quickly, or killing them slowly. You are certainly setting your child up for a lifetime of disease and horror by teaching them to eat poorly from a young age (and of course, this ends nowhere near KFC - you all know about the junk that you dump into your children's mouths).

I guess the thing is this - if I were to give this child rearing thing a go, there would be a lot of fresh air and sunshine, and not so much of the deep fried mass produced, artery clogging junk going into that child. They would be taugh values and morals, not Ronald McDonald and Chucky Cheese.

And I do appreciate the difference between feeding your child fried chicken and beating them to death - while you might find it offenseive to compare the two, I have done it.

There.
